A tall, well tanned Native man crouched in the meadows. The sunlight fell across his back, moving about the area as if with no purpose. He moved through the grasses to the trees, sitting and crossing his legs with his back to the rough trunk of the tree. A bird chattered above him, peeking warily at him from the edge of her nest and nestling back over her chicks. The chief rested his head against the bark, closing his eyes and crossing his muscular arms across his chest. He remembered the first time that he'd come here, when he'd been a mere brave. It'd been a dare that he wouldn't be able to swim through the river and be able to pull himself out before being dragged in. They'd watch a horse struggle - to their horror, before they decided that to prove themselves they'd have to do it as well. Naturally, Crazy Buffalo had been the only one that had taken the dare.
He'd jumped straight into the river, and the other braves had begun to panic when they couldn't see his head anymore. After a few seconds though, he emerged coughing and spitting out water, then fighting the currents while swimming to at least a little while down. Somehow, he'd made it and climbed successfully out of the water. Heh, he was revered by all the braves after that. The Indian opened his eyes again, scanning the hills that seemed to undulate, as if stagnant forms could even do such a thing. What was he searching for? Horses, of course. One that would be a perfect addition to his impressively growing herd of powerful mares and stallions, all caught fresh from the wild. Winikiya he'd left behind, and he'd come on foot alone to the untouchable land of the wild mustangs. His trusty stallion was hostile towards others, and it wouldn't help to have him frighten away possible ones.

[atrb=cellpadding,0,true][atrb=border,.5,true][atrb=cellspacing,2,true][bg=#000000]regular, speech, thoughts, other(s) Wandering was beginning to become a habit, not that she minded. It was rare for her to ever spend time near her uncle, not since Kaipo offered to let her wander with him, and with the liver chestnut stallion always watching over her, her uncle had decided that it was both a good plan for Firefly, as well as safe for her. So naturally, by the end of it, he'd agreed to permit Firefly the freedom to travel with the stallion she'd only just met, putting her life in his hands, or rather hooves. But as it was on some mornings, when she woke early, she'd wandered a bits way away, not far, enough so that if he called for her, she'd be with in hearing distance and able to rush back before he got antsy. And so it was today, as well. She'd wandered a bit further into the meadow, hoping to see one animal or another among the long grass, thought it seemed to be very disappointing in the lack of creatures for the most part.
She shifted slightly, her red and white hide standing out against the green of the meadow. She smiled faintly as she began to walk down towards the part of the meadow where she'd left Kaipo, playfully romping around the flowers as she did so, giggling in amusement. She spun around, as she passed a large selection of many colors of different flowers. She paused for a moment, admiring their beauty, before she began to wander about again, walking with a slight skip to her step as her white and red turned occasionally as she looked around to ensure that she was alright, and nothing was going to attack her. She really didn't need Kaipo going all overprotective just because she got in a little bit of tr- The thought was completely erased from the mare's mind when she saw a figment of something moving to the west. Tilting her head, instantly curious, she pondered calling for Kaipo for back up, before deciding not to wake him before he was already awake.
Instead, she opted to search herself, moving forward slowly, her head lowered faintly, and her gaze searching the area. It didn't take her long before she saw the odd creature at the base of a tree. She instantly paused, watching the creature with a hesitant expression, not sure if she should approach something she'd never so much as seen before. She watched for a brief moment, before taking a single step closer then stood stock still, once more debating to call for Kaipo, and wondering if this was really a good idea. She had no idea what the creature was, having never seen such a strange, unfamiliar creature before. And she had no idea whether it was safe or not.

He watched the land below him with something of vague interest, for he'd been there many a time. Even so, he couldn't deny the fact that it was beautiful. Beautiful just like much of the West had been, even the desert. Until they came. Though he couldn't blame them much, because they're eyes were blocked against the true beauty of the West, and they didn't care what happened. All they wanted was the land, and money. A flicker of something...red like war paint caught his interest. He didn't move, and only narrowed his eyes on the figure below. A mare was walking past the flowers, wait, no, that wouldn't be the word for it. She had a sort of springy, light step, though he immediately denied the thought that she was skipping. For some reason the word had always seemed a bit peculiar for a animal.
Crazy Buffalo watched with interest as she looked at the flowers, then moved on. Then...she'd noticed him. The mare took a step forward, just as the Indian sat up ever so slightly. He had a better look of her now. She had appaloosa blood, most definitely, and some other blood in her that he couldn't tell. Her coat had a white base, with the appearance of a white horse that had red warpaint splattered onto her in a artistic manner. Lovely creature no doubt, but her manner? Whether or not he could even tame her was the question. He whistled like a bird, then, waiting.

[atrb=cellpadding,0,true][atrb=border,.5,true][atrb=cellspacing,2,true][bg=#000000]regular, speech, thoughts, other(s) Firefly always was the type to explore, though considering she’d done it so much as a child, following her mother, or leading her in other times, it was hardly a surprise, but she rarely let herself be gone for long, which was the reason she hoped Kaipo wouldn’t worry that she’d wandered so far today. But at least she was heading back now, playing and traipsing through the flowers that doted the meadow she was currently making her way through. She lowered her muzzle occasional when she’d see something moving among the petals of a near by flower, or something similar, before her head would be tossed up and looking around wildly when a butterfly would rush past, startling her, other times, she’d back away, crossing her eyes when it’d land on her nose, as if hoping that if she moved back far enough she could see it better. Of course, she hadn’t gone far through the flowers before she’d looked up to see the oddest sort of animal in the meadow.
It’s fur was dark, but looked smooth, kind of like a snake. It’s mane was long, and black, but it seemed to be missing a tail, and it looked so very deformed in the face. As if it’d run into a tree and it’s face got all scrunched up, though it looked just as smooth as the rest of him. Or at least she thought the creature was a ‘he’. As she took a step forward, she froze again seeing the creature move slightly, shifting as it seemed to get bigger, straighter. Maybe it was a type of snake, what if it was poisonous? What if it tried to hurt her. But he remained sitting, just watching her, and so she tilted her head taking another step forward slowly before he opened his mouth, and whistled, a bird whistle. So? Was he a bird? But he had smooth scales for fur, and a mane. But he made bird noises? What on earth was he? She stood frozen again for just a slow, brief moment before she took another half a step closer, waiting, watching, wondering if he was even safe, all the while second guessing herself, the smart part of her brain telling her to go catch Kaipo and bring him to this odd human, while the other part still wanted more answers.

A bee zig zagged through the air, stopping every so often on one flower or another, then buzzed away off into the rest of the meadow, ignoring him completely. He kept his eyes on the slowly stepping mare, relaxing his back again on the tree trunk. A bird answered him from the tree tops, copying his very tune with a mocking trill at the very end. Amusing. Crazy Buffalo whistled again, conjuring up some random thing that came to his mind yet again. Out of the corner of his eye, he observed the mare take another, hesitant half step toward him. She was brave, so he would commend her on that, for even deciding to come over at all. There were few of the equine species that even dared come over. Winikiya himself had come barreling up to him, ramming his muzzle and knocking the Native American off his feet as soon as he saw him. In fact, the steed had the intention to kill the man.
Now to think about it, humans most likely were the ugliest animal race. That is, if you thought about it from the point of view of a animal. They were smooth in skin and had flat faces. Unfortunately, Natives tended to have flatter faces than the whites. Gladly, he was a exception, along with some others in the tribe. The man interrupted his own thought process and looked at the mare, reaching into his pouch and taking out a apple. Setting it down beside him, he closed his eyes, a pleasant expression settling on his face.

Her ears flicked forward, her head tilting, as she paused to watch quietly. She took another step forward before stopping and laying down to watch the man quietly, his attention on nearly everything but herself, before a limb moved, disappearing into a pouch and her ears flicked up, her body going alert at the apple. Her ears flicked forward as he set the apple down, his eyes soon closing. She hesitated, and then stood, pausing to look at him, before she walked forward again one step, then another before pausing again. Then with a burst of energy she cantered forward, grabbed the apple then cantered away again, before laying down once more, eating the apple, expression happy.

He heard the hesitant meeting of hoof to earth, one at a time. Ha, there was a bait this time. It'd be difficult to resist a luscious, juicy apple. Then there was the sound of hooves beating against the ground, stopping for a heartbeat, then rushing away. Crazy waited for a short while before opening one eye and sneaking a peek at the mare. While she merrily munched away on her apple, he placed one hand on the ground before him. Then after waiting for a few minutes, he eased himself down quite a bit. That is to say, he went quite a distance until he was very much near the red and white mare. Sighing, he put his hands behind his head and fell over onto his back, staring up at the sky. The few clouds curled and danced, letting ribbons of white flash in a dilatory fashion across the blue sky. On the other side, the sun was twinkling and making an effort to catch his attention with its bright, white hot light. A bald eagle swung lazily on the sky, catching a drift, one feather bent, and then soaring off.

[atrb=cellpadding,0,true][atrb=border,.5,true][atrb=cellspacing,2,true][bg=#000000]regular, speech, thoughts, other(s) It took her a bit of time before she'd managed to race over, grabbing the apple that he'd sat down, and escaping just as quickly. She ate happily, though she kept her eyes on the creature by the tree, the one that had offered her the treat, watching home closely with a mixture of curiosity and faint nervousness. Firefly snorted as she tossed her head, finishing the apple before pausing as he put a hand on the ground, when he didn't move, she snorted, flicking her tail to lower her head and graze, keeping an eye on him. She took a faint slight step when after a few moments he moved slightly, though the constantly watching him part was sure to be her downfall as she misstepped, and tumbled faintly, ending up sprawled on the ground. Standing quickly again, she shook herself off before giving the creature her best 'you did that on purpose' glare, as if blaming him for her attention being on him. Shaking out her ivory and fire mane, she glanced away, before suddenly smelling him closer, looking back and doing a double take to see him much, much closer. She glanced at him, then at the tree where she last saw him before snorting in the 'what the hell' manner. She watched him fall to his back, staring up at the sky, and after pausing a moment she took a tiny step forward, tilting her head in confusion at his actions, before taking another step forward, soon ending up a few feet from him. She hesitantly stretched out her nose before nudging him in the side, startled by the feel of his furless skin, and springing backwards again. Blinking, regathering her wits, she went a bit closer again, touching him again, this time harder to see a response, before frowning and moving a step closer, watching him, prepared to bolt to safety a few yards away should he move to quickly again.
