Mare restlessly paced toward the spring, a light rain falling. Her mane was dripping in strings, as was her tail. It wasn't cold, for the cloud cover was light. She was comfortable, even wet, but she wasn't content. She had eaten her fill of grass, she wasn't thirsty, and she had no job. She had scouted out the area, knew where the plants with healing power were, and knew the lay of the land around her. In short, she was bored. She wanted to move on, but to where? She wanted to run, but again, to where? She had travelled weeks to find something new. Well, she had found something new, but it wasn't better than anything she had had before.
She briefly wondered if she had been wrong to leave. There they appreciated her, and there was plenty of activity and plenty to stretch her brain and make her think. She hated just existing, she wanted to be doing something, thinking through a problem, or being physically challenged. There were lands around her that she could go and climb steep slopes or run across rocky ground to challenge her body, but that was part of her morning routine. Every morning she ran for miles or climbed, strengthening and maintaining muscles that could keep her alive in a fight. But she wasn't fighting, she wasn't a warrior, she didn't even have a herd.
She plunged without thinking into the fresh water spring, her tail floating up behind her as she walked into the water until it covered her back. Only her dark cream neck, plastered with water, her stringy brown mane, and her refined head were out of the water. Gold flecked eyes restlessly scanned her surroundings, every inch of her body screaming her unrest. Rashn wasn't made to be still, to have nothing to do. It was the reason she had followed her brother, copied his moves as he practiced what he was learning. It was what made her think up new moves to try on him, constantly learning and evaluating and adapting. Now, being alone with nothing to do, Rashn was lost. She might have been unhappy in her herd, but now she was practically miserable. If something in her new life didn't give, she would return to her old herd, take the job of teacher, and never look back.
